This project is aiming for creating a right-sized package and a new brand message for the over-packaged technology of our choices. The only material we were allowed to use was recycled paperboard, and the project was focusing on:
· Minimizing materials.
· Minimizing ink coverage to maximize recyclability.
· Protecting the product.
· Designing for effective store display and shipping
· Communicating the brand and showcasing the product
My choice of this project was Sony wireless speaker because it is one of the over-packaged products and the sphere shape is challenging.
We were required to design an item for a specific target audience/client, and we talked through the concept, design and their preferences.
My audience was Chloe Zheng, who likes tea and tea sweets. Therefore I decided to make a tea packaging for her to store different kinds of tea sweets and tea powder or tea bags. My client said she would like it to be clean, intimate, welcoming and portable at the same time.
This project was to make a wine label for either existing or non-existing brand.
"VIAGGIO" (Italian) means journey, and I think it is the best word that can describe us - who is going to be graduating and starting a new chapter of our life.
I marbled the background paper to show that the sparking wine is not the only fluxy thing - but we also are.
Ninth Letter is the award-winning literary arts journal at the University of Illinois, which is produced as a collaborative effort between the Creative Writing Program and the School of Art+Design.
I designed some of the doodle drawings, glyph, the WWA section with Katie Gamble and the spine.
This project is open topic, printing method and media. It is a book about Chinese traditional solar terms (summer and fall) with corresponding seasonal food and poems. I combined lithography and screen print for the content, and bound with drum leaf style. (Some of the images were illustrated by Caroline Lin)
We worked in a group of four people and spent 20 minutes introducing and talking in order to get to know each other better. Our goal was to make two posters for other people based on what they said (a quote, which has to be put on the posters) and who they are. It is supposed to be tightly tie with the target person, who may choose to reveal his/her name or stay anonymous.
Lumi is a made-up brand, which produces candles in flashcard forms. "Lumi" came from the word "illuminate" and it is not only about the flame of the candle, but also lighting up wisdom. The concept is that after learning a vocabulary, it will be burned and memorized by the learner. It comes with three different languages and translations with different colors and scents.
This project focused on different global issues that we care about, and I really care about animal rights and cultural diversities. Therefore, I decided to combine the two issue to raise awareness of how cruel we treat animals as human beings. It is a poster series that will have one poster for each country aiming one specific animal that is supposed to be the "No. 1 popular" for animal production. Since these are posters for different countries and cultures, I used the native language for each one but all of them are saying the same - "When the buying stops, the killing can too." from one of the advertisements made by WWF.
Different from all the projects we have done before, this is a project that we had to deal with situations like real clients, budget, etc. Therefore, it was a challenging experience but definitely worth doing. We offered them mock-ups of redesigned logo, website, pamphlet, brochure, vinyl stickers on glass, style book, ambassador kit and exhibition style, layout and portrait style.
Hawk & Dbauce
A logo design for Hawk & Dbauce, which is a band that plays electrical music and rap. It was a group project and I worked on the logo with Hengfeng Lu.
They did not want any regular text included in the logo but still want the audience to see their name, therefore, we decided to deform the "HD" – the abbreviation for the band.
Series of animation made for my own interest, and these could also be used in UI/UX design.
Besides graphic design, I am also very interested in printmaking. I have made prints through different methods, such as lithography, relief printing, screen printing, intaglio printing and letter press.
The objective for the project is to create a series of speculative interface designs for a piece of technology 15 years into the future. Key words for the projects are: Speculative design, User interface design and User experience design.
I decided to design a wall screen that provides food service, and it is a personalized system that stores each individual's profile, preference, allergy and such. The user can either search for receipts or order food delivery. The wall screen can be controlled by different hand gestures, therefore it will be an easy to use no matter where the user is.
